Accademia Italiana Florence Courses

Most students take one 4 credit Italian language course (mandatory) as well as four 3 credit courses per semester for a total of 16 credits. 

  • Please review your courses with your academic or study abroad advisor to ensure they will transfer back to your home school and that you are following your home school’s policies.
  • Please be flexible – we can’t guarantee specific courses. If your participation in the program depends on a particular course, be sure to make a note on your .

Special Considerations

  • Placement test to determine Italian proficiency during orientation.
  • Students must take at least one Italian language course.
  • Art, fashion, and design courses are taught in Italian, with simultaneous English translation to ensure all students can fully participate.
  • Students with no previous subject background may enroll in beginner-level courses.
  • Upper-level students must demonstrate proficiency in Italian and in the subject discipline.
  • Optional 91¿´Æ¬Íø Internship: Complete an internship placement arranged by 91¿´Æ¬Íø that allows you to work virtually and earn academic credit alongside your courses. See the Internship Placement Guide for information about placement possibilities, including organization locations throughout the world. 
  • Independent Research: Replace one Accademia Italiana Florence course with your own research project which you complete with faculty support - another excellent achievement for your resume. Contact your program advisor for more information.

Choosing Your Courses

Use the Accademia Italiana Florence to select classes.

  • Courses are worth 3 credits each.
  • Register for at least 13 credits per semester.
  • Academic year students: be sure to fill out courses for both Fall and Spring semesters.
  • Italian language (4 credits) is mandatory
  • Indicate the Italian Language course you plan to take
  • Secure approval for at least 6-10 courses per semester.
  • List alternate courses in order of preference.
  • Contact your program manager to request syllabi for approval at your home school, if needed.

You must enroll in the Internship Cornerstone Course if you select an 91¿´Æ¬Íø Internship placement.

Enrollment Process

Official course registration will take place upon arrival. The online course form you submit to 91¿´Æ¬Íø prior to acceptance is not set in stone.

Miscellaneous

Advanced students applying for art, fashion, and design classes may be asked to submit a portfolio during the admissions process, consisting of 10-12 pieces of recent work.

  • Indicate your name and the art medium used.
  • Include the dimensions and title of the artwork.
  • Upload your portfolio as a PDF in your 91¿´Æ¬Íø Portal for submission.

Grade Scale

Grades will be reported exactly as they appear on the Accademia Italiana transcript.
